Letter to the Editor

Fire incompetent players too

Dear editor,
ALLOW me space in your widely read newspaper to commend coaches for forming a union to protect their interests.
It is not a secret that football coaches are the most abused and harassed employees in Zambia. Coaching has in fact become the most insecure job in the labour market.
Coaches are fired at the whims of incompetent executive committees of clubs even when they have done their best to deliver good results.
When a team records a string of losses or draws, the first person to blame is the coach.
When players perform below expected standards the blame is heaped at the coaches’ feet.
I am proposing to the executive committees that when they fire a coach they should also fire all the team’s strikers for failing to score.
JACK S MWANSA,
Lusaka.
