FIDE chief hails Zambia chess

INTERNATIONAL Chess Federation (FIDE) acting president Georgios Makropoulos says Zambia is poised to become the centre of activity for the sport in Africa.
And Chess Federation of Zambia (CFZ) patron Chitalu Chilufya has pledged to transform the sport in Africa once elected FIDE vice president.
Makropoulos said the CFZ led by Mukubulo Chilufya has made great strides in improving the standards of chess in Zambia despite being in office only for a few months.
The FIDE chief was speaking during the prize-giving ceremony of the Zambia Open Chess Tournament at Government Complex on Sunday night.
He said FIDE will support Zambia in its quest to develop the sport
