FIRST Lady Esther Lungu says President Lungu’s decision to go for a woman as a running mate in this year’s general elections is unprecedented.
According to the State House Press Office Facebook page, Mrs Lungu said this in Luangwa yesterday during an outreach programme for people with special needs.
“The President has made history in this country by appointing a female Vice-President and he has further decided to adopt a female running mate. This is unprecedented, so I feel I should publicly put it on record, Mr President, that you have made the Zambian woman proud. I urge my fellow women to take advantage of the wave of change in their favour,” Mrs Lungu said.
The First Lady added:  “Allow me to publicly congratulate our republican President, Mr  Edgar Chagwa Lungu, for  the courageous resolution to not only create a conducive environment for the participation of women in the political, social and economic space of this great country, but also to practise what he has pronounced.”
Mrs Lungu is happy that Government is making great strides in ensuring that women in Zambia just like their male counterparts are actively participating in the socio-economic development of the country.
She also said Zambian women and girls should not be denied education.
