KITCHEN and Aluminium Limited founder and project manager Sarah Ngoma says women struggle to compete in the male-dominated carpentry industry due to lack of equipment and customer’s preference for male dealers.
Mrs Ngoma, 25, a carpenter specialised in kitchen units and wardrobes, said the industry is competitive and the downside for women entrepreneurs is that clients prefer men more.
The mother of two, however, says women need to be resilient to compete in the industry.
“From my profits, I have acquired a farm in Mumbwa because I also want to invest in agriculture besides what I am doing. A woman`s place should not only be in the kitchen but she needs to do diverse income generating activities,” she shares.
