OPPOSITION Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) Chienge member of Parliament (MP) Given Katuta has commended the Patriotic Front (PF) government for its commitment towards improving the socio-economic welfare of citizens country-wide.
And Government, through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has procured roofing sheets and blankets worth K49,281 for residents of Chienge in Luapula Province whose houses were blown off during the rainy season.
Ms Katuta says Chienge has not been left out of Government’s robust development programme.
She was speaking when she donated a motorbike, hammer mill and five bales of blankets in her constituency.
“I am here to work with the government so that we can empower our people, it does not matter whether I am in the opposition or not. We all have a mandate and that is to work for the people who put us in office,” said Ms Katuta when she donated assorted items in her constituency.
Ms Katuta said the hammer mill will help in reducing poverty levels in Museka and other surrounding villages.
“The motorbike I am donating today will be used at Chienge District Hospital to curb transport challenges people go through in accessing health services and inspect health activities in the district. I am confident that the hammer mill will enable our people to have easy access to mealie- meal,” she said.
She urged residents of Chienge to come up with co-operatives so that they could benefit from various empowerment programmes Government is implementing aimed at transforming the lives of citizens.
She said co-operatives will enable the people of Chienge to have easy access to financial services.
