Father fights for children custody

SYLVESTER CHISHIMBA, Lusaka
A LUSAKA man has begged the Lusaka Boma Courts not to grant his former lover custody of their two children because she is a drunkard.
Robert Mushabati, 38, of Mtendere Township told senior local court magistrates Miyanda Banda and Dennis Mpundu that his former lover Prisca Zulu, 31, would usually leave their two children locked up and unsupervised in the house while she went out patronising bars and drinking alcohol.
Mushabati was narrating in a case in which Zulu of Chazanga Township sued him for custody of the children. The couple had children during their six years of cohabitation.
“When we were cohabiting, Zulu would lock our two young children in the house. She would come back home after 01:00 hours. She has no time for our children except for beer drinking. Besides, she is not employed or engaged in any income generating activities and thus will not be able to provide for them,” he said.
But Zulu told the court that she wanted the children in her custody because they are too young to be with their father.
The court adjourned the case for judgment.
