Farmers urged to acquire skills

TRYNESS MBALE, Lusaka
CHIEFTAINESS Mweenda of Chikankata has called on farmers in Southern Province to join the Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU) to gain knowledge on the latest production-enhancing technologies and financing.
The traditional leader commended the union for awarding farmers with appropriate farming equipment to improve their production.
This is contained in the ZNFU’s Friday brief availed to the Daily Mail on Monday.
She said for farmers to be more productive, they should utilise the union which has helped them come up with innovations that are aimed at encouraging farmers, especially women.
Chieftainess Mweenda made the appeal to over 200 farmers in her chiefdom at a handover ceremony of a hammer mill.
The traditional ruler said, “I would also like to commend the union for uniting farmers and fostering growth in the sector,” and that the agricultural equipment will empower the whole community by reducing the distance to the nearest grinder.
At the same occasion, seven farmers each received a ZNFU-branded bicycle and a 10kilogramme bag of seed donated by Pioneer du Pont.
