GOVERNMENT plans to strengthen early warning systems to enable farmers to mitigate climate-related hazards.
Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba said there is need to warn the population in advance to lessen the impact of climate-related shocks such as floods, extreme temperatures and prolonged dry spell.
Mr Mushimba said in a statement availed to the Daily Mail yesterday that without investing in the capacity to generate information, especially the monitoring and forecasting of climate-related hazards like early warning systems will never function as optimally as it could.
“This is why my ministry is working with development partners such the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to strengthen the early warning systems.
