Export maize to Malawi, Zim, farmers advised

ZAMBIA National Farmers Union (ZNFU) has advised farmers to consider exporting maize to Malawi and Zimbabwe, where the price is competitive.
And Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary Julius Shawa says farmers are free to sell their maize as the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) is only mandated to buy 500 metric tonnes of maize to ensure food security.
ZNFU public relations manager, Calvin Kaleyi has urged farmers must not be comfortable with the FRA’s revised maize buying price of K70 for a 50 kilogramme bag.
“Farmers should consider exporting maize to Malawi and Zimbabwe at a competitive price of K120 and K130 for a 50kg bag, respectively.
“It is important that farmers take advantage of the available ready market for them in Malawi and Zimbabwe which is being offered at a good price taking into consideration the cost of production
