Investment Forum with MARGARET CHIMANSE
THE Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) says the Luapula Expo and Investment Conference has unveiled numerous investment opportunities in the province which, when harnessed well, will change the economic outlook of the province.
Speaking at the just-ended Luapula Expo, ZDA director enterprise development Mukula Makasa said there are enormous opportunities in agriculture, tourism, mining, aquaculture, forestry and livestock, among others.
Mr Makasa explained that the ZDA was taking advantage of the expo to package various opportunities to be marketed further to the entire world.
He however added that while in Luapula, the agency engaged the business community in the province to provide requisite business development support services and business formalisation services, through the business clinic being undertaken in collaboration with other relevant government business support service institutions.
Mr Makasa said more than 400 business enterprises had access to the business clinic at the expo.
“The ZDA also facilitated business-to-business meetings between foreign investors and domestic investors with micro, small and medium enterprises,” said Mr Makasa.
He further revealed that there are programmes lined up for small enterprises in timber processing, aquaculture and mining.
Mr Makasa said there are minerals development and small-scale mining programmes lined up for enterprises in the mining sector.
“The programmes will help small mining enterprises in the extraction and value addition to industrial minerals while the other will support small enterprises in the extraction and adding value to semi-precious and precious stones,” he explained.
Mr Makasa said in aquaculture, there is a programme called ‘Yapasa’, a youth empowerment programme focusing on fish farming and soya value chain.
He said in the timber sector, there is a programme under the Green Jobs aimed at promoting replacement of the forest production.
“After all the programmes are done, the ZDA will provide business and market linkages both locally and internationally,” he said.
Mr Makasa encouraged the businesses in Luapula to take advantage of the opportunities to grow the economy of the province.
The Luapula Expo and Investment Conference was held under the theme “Linking investors to Luapula Province to unlock the investment potential.”
