MWAPE MWENYA, Mwinilunga
EXPECTANT mothers are being admitted in the same ward as men at Kanyama Rural Health post in Mwinilunga district in North-Western Province.
Chief Kanyama of the Lunda people has attributed this to lack of a hospital in the area, which has a huge catchment area.
Speaking to journalists when officials from the National Food and Nutritional Commission paid a courtesy call at his palace last week, the chief appealed for the construction of a hospital.
The traditional leader said it is demeaning and heart-breaking to see women who are delivering to be in the same ward with men.
Chief Kanyama said he is ready to offer land for the construction of a hospital in the area.
