FORMER Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) president Evelyn Nguleka has died.
Dr Nguleka, 47, died in Lusaka yesterday at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) around 16:30 hours after being admitted on Wednesday.
ZNFU president Jervis Zimba confirmed the death of Dr Nguleka in an interview adding that full details of the funeral would be issued as soon as the family agrees on them.
“Yes, I can confirm that Dr Nguleka has died. She died this afternoon at UTH after an illness. However, further details will be availed once the family has sat to discuss but as you are aware, she just passed,” he said.
Dr Nguleka was ZNFU president as well as president of the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) until last September, when she resigned both positions.
Dr Nguleka was elected ZNFU’s first female president in 2013, and prior to that, she served as first vice-president of ZNFU. She studied veterinary science, and advocated the protection of local family farmers and food producers.
