Ex-permsec, Mataka acquitted

THE Lusaka Magistrate’s Court has acquitted former Information and Broadcasting Services permanent secretary Samson Phiri and three journalists in a case in which they were charged with corruption.

Dr Phiri, former Zambia Daily Mail deputy managing director Davies Mataka, former Afronet executive director Ngande Mwanajiti and the Zambian Newspaper Limited, were facing charges of abuse of public funds.
Delivering ruling yesterday, Lusaka principal resident magistrate Aridah Chulu said there was no evidence of corruption in the matter as the Zambian Newspaper was a government project.
