Ex-mayor pleads not guilty

SUSPENDED Kitwe mayor Kelvin Sinyangwe yesterday appeared in the Kitwe Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to two counts of obtaining K116, 000 by false pretences.
Sinyangwe, 51, of house number 21 on the Kitwe-Ndola dual carriageway, appeared before magistrate Kampinda Chipamu.
In count one, it is alleged that Sinyangwe, on dates unknown but between January 1, 2012 and February 22 this year in Kitwe,  obtained K11,000 from Agatha Mubanga on the pretext he had a plot to sell when in fact not.
In the second count, allegedly obtained K105,000 from Henry Lungu by falsely pretending that he had a piece of land for sale when in fact not.
Magistrate Chipamu granted Mr Sinyangwe a K10,000 cash bail with two working sureties in senior managerial positions in their own recognisance and adjourned the case to April 26, this year for commencement of trial.
