Ex-Copperbelt top cop acquitted

AFTER almost five years of anxiety, former Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Mary Tembo was yesterday startled into relief when the Ndola Magistrate’s Court acquitted her of corruption charges.Ms Tembo, who appeared surprised at the outcome of the judgment, was facing two counts of abuse of authority of office.
In delivering judgment yesterday, acting resident magistrate Paul Chisha acquitted Ms Tembo of the two counts because the prosecution failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.
Particulars of the offence in the first count are that on unknown dates, but between May 1 and June 30, 2013, Ms Tembo abused the authority of her office as commissioner of police for Copperbelt by accepting a Toyota Corolla registration number AAX 5716 from Grizzly Mining Limited which she registered in her name, thereby obtaining benefits for herself.
