Ex-Big Brother Africa ‘fake’ housemate Eveva dies

EVIVA

KELVIN KACHINGWE, Lusaka
EVEVA, the Zambian ‘fake’ housemate in Big Brother Africa season eight, which was also known as The Chase, died on Tuesday at the age of 29 following an unsuccessful operation at Levy Mwanawasa Hospital.
The announcement of her death was posted on her Facebook page which was later flooded with messages of condolences with most of them remembering her time in Big Brother Africa.
“No dull moment with this lady. Rest in peace!” someone posted.
The statement on her Facebook read: ““It’s sad to inform you all of the passing away of Eveva Sitali. She had an accident in 2014 and had undergone many operations on her leg but the last operation she had on Saturday 7th May was unsuccessful and she passed on the 10th of May at Levy Mwanawasa hospital…M.H.S.R.I.P.”
Eveva (Evelyne Sitali) was one of the six housemates introduced during the game to confuse the actual housemates on Day 49 in the 91-day competition. The others, in the so-called Emerald House, were Alusa (Kenya), Busi (South Africa), Jazz (Kenya), JJ (Zimbabwe), and Sophie (Uganda).
The Zambian representatives in The Chase, which was eventually won by Namibian housemate Dillish, were Sulu and Cleo Ice Queen who came close to repeating the feat by Cherise, who won the inaugural Big Brother Africa competition in 2003.
In BBA season eight competition, there were 28 housemates, who lived in two houses – Ruby and Diamond. And each week, two housemates would swap houses for the following week until the merge was reached. Eveva’s house, Emerald, was a concept produced by Big Brother to make housemates second guess their chances of winning.
Eveva’s Facebook biography reads that: “[She] is BBA8 fake Emerald housemate from Zambia who is a massage therapist (masseuse) with her own beauty spa in Chipata but she is originally from Lusaka. [She] brought the house down during her stint in the Big Brother -The Chase. She is also a musician”.
Another former Big Brother Africa housemate, Goldie (Susan Filani Harve) of Nigeria, who had a close relationship with Kenyan contestant Prezzo, died in 2013 of hypertensive heart disease, according to an autopsy conducted by the Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
