EUPHORIA yesterday ripped through Evelyn Hone College as students celebrated Government’s intervention to end their transport blues, which have hampered the institution’s smooth operations for some time.
The students, who in the past have been resorting to violence in pressing management to address their plight, rejoiced when they witnessed the handover of a brand new bus worth K900,000 bought using college resources.
“This is no doubt a heavy cost to the college. I am sure the many reasons for its purchase outweigh the cost in the long run.
“It could have been very difficult for the college to handle the matter without Government’s support,” Evelyn Hone College board chairperson Fastone Goma said before handing over the bus bought from Higer Bus Company Limited.
Dr Goma said there was a lot of cooperation and discussion between the students’ leaders and the college management concerning procurement of the bus.
“We expect you to jealously guard this bus and use it effectively to enhance your academic activities. Therefore, utilise the bus effectively and don’t vandalise this facility,” he added.
Dr Goma thanked Higer Bus Company Limited for being flexible during the entire transaction.
Earlier, Evelyn Hone College Principal Daniel Fwambo said management hopes the purchase of the bus will not only add value to the institution’s core business of training but will also make students happy.
And Evelyn Hone College Students Union vice-president Mazuba Mwelwa said the achievement has been made without any violence as opposed to previous situations.
