Ethanol project to create 1,000 jobs in Kawambwa

NALISHEBO NAMAIKO, Lusaka
OVER 1,000 jobs are expected to be created from the US$800 million ethanol project by Sunbird Bio-Energy that has started in Kawambwa with the planting of cassava to be used as feedstock.
The project, situated on the Luena farm block, was commissioned by President Edgar Lungu in 2015 and is aimed at substituting imported fuel with bio-fuel using cassava feedstock.
Luapula Province Minister Nickson Chilangwa said the project will improve the economic outlook of the province through employment creation.
“Sunbird, which will be producing ethanol using cassava as a feedstock, has completed planting the cassava seed for the 2018/2019 farming season.
“The production of ethanol will reduce on the budgetary bill for the importation of fuel,” Mr Chilangwa said in an interview on Friday.
The project will create over 1,000 direct and 10,000 indirect jobs http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
