WITH the Kapasa Makasa University now open, it is my hope that the administration ensures that the institution is turned into a showpiece of the town.
This should be in churning out fine graduates, having disciplined students and staff, as well as keeping the infrastructure and surroundings in good shape.
It would be a shame to see the institution degenerate into the kind of chaotic situations we often see at some of the older universities.
I also appeal to the authorities to erect a statue of the great freedom fighter Robert Kapasa Makasa after whom the university has been built.
If this is to be done, the university should ensure that the sculpture is done by experts.
It must be a figure that will truly reflect the man that he was – a former freedom fighter, a Christian and a family man.
