THE Lusaka City Council has called on companies to enter tomorrow’s Mayoral tournament set for Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC).
Assistant public relations manager Brenda Katongola said in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday that there is need for companies to join the bandwagon and make the event a success.
Proceeds will go towards the rebuilding of Lusaka City Market that was gutted on July 4 and donations could be made through the Lusaka City Council Zanaco Social Club Account 5216478300105.
“The response has been good so far, but we are still appealing to more companies to come on board and be part of this annual event. Registration is ongoing until the day of the event. Our budget is K200,000 but we hope to raise more than this.
“The proceeds to be realised from this event will be channelled to victims of the recently gutted city market. We are grateful to Zamtel and other institutions that have come on board but we still need more support from the corporate world and individuals that can manage to donate towards this noble cause,” Katongola said.
Events to be contested for include football, netball, athletics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, needle race, high jump, long jump, table tennis and darts among others.
Minister of Local Government Vincent Mwale is expected to be guest of honour.
