Empower widows – Mwalongo

SHIKANDA KAWANGA, Livingstone
WIDOWS Association of Zambia in Southern Province plans to empower 150 widows this year with entrepreneurship activities to improve their livelihood. Last year, 75 widows were empowered.
Association co-ordinator Hellen Mwalongo said the women will be trained in village chicken rearing and recycling of plastic into handbags as a money-making venture.
Ms Mwalongo advised widows and orphans to accept the loss of their loved ones and encouraged others to join the association to benefit in the entrepreneurship skills being offered.
Some men are also joining the association rather than suffering in isolation.
Ms Mwalongo said widowers need training and advice on money-making ventures to reduce the poverty rates in their homes and communities as well.
She also called on well-wishers to support the association.
