Embrace positive reporting, media told

CECILIA ZULU, Lusaka
GOVERNMENT has urged media organisations to embrace positive reporting ahead of the Africa Youth Championship kicking off on February 26 in Lusaka and Ndola.
Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development permanent secretary Agnes Musunga said during a workshop in Lusaka yesterday that the media is an important stakeholder as the country prepares to host the youth championship.
Musunga said this in a speech read on her behalf by Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga that Government recognises the role the fourth estate plays.
Musunga is confident Zambia will host a successful tournament.
She said hosting such an event is an indication that the country is progressing towards bidding for major events like the Africa Cup of Nations.
And Kamanga said FAZ will soon launch the mascot for the Africa Youth Championship.
He also acknowledged receiving complaints over the publicity of the event saying the local organising committee has been under pressure in putting logistics in place.
FAZ general secretary Ponga Liwewe said they will soon engage an online media manager and public relations officer.
Zambia are in Group A alongside Egypt, Guinea and Mali while Group B has Cameroon, Senegal, South Africa and Sudan.
