‘Embrace informal workers in social security’

MINISTER of Labour and Social Security Joyce Simukoko has urged pension houses to be innovative in coming up with packages that will attract more informal workers to invest in social security protection.
Mrs Simukoko said it is high time social security coverage was fully extended to the informal sector.
She said according to a 2017 survey, 63.1 percent of workers were in the informal economy while only 36.9 percent were in the formal sector.
“This means that the majority of the workforce does not have any form of social security protection. But with a clear strategy, ambition and drive, this goal can be attained,” she said.
