Education is best empowerment, says Matibini

EDUCATION is the best empowerment that can ever be given to young people for them to be active participants in the development agenda of the country, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Zambia branch president Patrick Matibini has said.
Dr Matibini, who is also Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, said parliament can ensure that young people are placed at the centre of sustainable development.
“As the saying goes, young people are the future of any country. It is therefore only prudent that if any country were to boast of sustainable development, the young people should be at the centre stage of such development,” Dr Matibini said.
He said this yesterday at the Parliament auditorium when he opened a one-day CPA seminar for all members of Parliament (MPs) in Zambia.
The Speaker said the seminar offered MPs, who are representatives of people, an opportunity to discuss challenges and solutions for providing quality education to all citizens.
“The subject on the role of parliamentarians on addressing the decline in the access to quality education is especially important because education is crucial in national development,” Dr Matibini said.
The parliamentarians deliberated on how to ensure that young people are placed at the centre of sustainable development and on the role education plays.
