CHOMBA MUSIKA, Lusaka
THE Supreme Court has sentenced Rainbow Newspaper editor Derrick Sinjela to 18 months in jail for baselessly accusing judges of being corrupt in the manner they handled the Stanbic Bank vs Savenda case.
When passing the judgment, Deputy Chief Justice Marvin Mwanamwambwa told Sinjela that had he denied the charge, he would have been slapped with a longer jail term.
The verdict comes barely a month after the same court slapped a six-year simple jail term on Southern Africa Network Against Corruption executive director Gregory Chifire for contempt of court.
Yesterday the court sent Sinjela to jail and castigated him for publishing insulting sentiments against Supreme Court judges who handled the Stanbic Bank vs Savenda judgment which was in favour of the bank.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
