IT IS good that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has issued a warning against the two major political parties the Patriotic Front (PF) and United Party for National Development over violence.
ECZ needs to rise up and flex its muscles if political violence is to be curbed.
ECZ should be concerned like any other peace-loving Zambian that political violence is escalating from use of pangas to firearms.
Lives must be protected at all cost. If it means banning political parties that are perpetuating violence, let it be so.
We cannot allow lives to be lost for political gain. It is inhuman and unacceptable.
I believe ECZ is on ground and knows the major culprits.
If violence rears its ugly head in politics again, ECZ should not just warn but act and decisively so.
We cannot continue sitting idly by while lives are being lost.
Members of the public should also be assertive and report individuals that are perpetuating violence.
The perpetrators come from communities and homes. People in communities know the culprits. The public should help alert the police on individuals keeping dangerous weapons and perpetrating violence.
