Letter to the Editor

Eclipses are not scientific phenomena

Dear editor,
I WOULD like to correct the impression that might have been set by some media saying that the eclipse of the moon is a scientific phoenomenon. This would be similar to assume that copper is science.
It is better we start with the definition of science.
Science is the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.
An eclipse of the moon can be explained scientifically just like copper or the revolution of the earth around the sun and that does not make it a scientific phenomenon. It is better to call it a heavenly spectacular phenomenon. Science is something we human beings do intellectually and we practically study the structures and their behaviour through observation and experiments.
