Eastern Province gets funding for roads

THE National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) has released K403,000 for road maintenance in Eastern Province.
Road Development Agency (RDA) Eastern region manager Thomas Zimba said the money is being used to patch pot-holes on the Chipata-Lundazi road.
Mr Zimba said the patching of potholes on the Chipata-Lundazi road is at 75 percent completion.
He said RDA requested for funds from Government for emergency maintenance works to prolong the lifespan of roads in the province.
“Most roads in the province were washed away following heavy rains experienced this season. The maintenance of roads is underway, and Government has pumped in money towards the works” he said.
Mr Zimba said NRFA is ready to release more funds towards the maintenance of roads in the region.
And Mr Zimba said about K1.3 million is being used to construct Kazangazo culvert on the Petauke-Ukwimi road.
He also said that K844, 000 has been spent on the construction of Chibale culvert on the Petauke-Ukwimi road.
Mr Zimba said RDA is also constructing Onzi Bridge in Petauke district.
