Drinking contest ends in death

A MAN has died after drinking six bottles of highly potent spirit popularly known as Tujilijili in a contest with a friend on who would consume 20 bottles.

Oscar Kavungu, aged between 25 and 30 years of Kambelembele village in Kalombo area in Chavuma district, died around 16:00 hours on Monday at Chavuma District Hospital where he had been hospitalised for treatment of the “overdose”.
North-Western Province commissioner of police Auxensio Daka said in an interview yesterday that Kavungu’s friend, Charles Mwiye, 25, also consumed five and half bottles of the alcoholic drink but was quickly rushed to the hospital where he was treated and is out of danger.
In another incident, a set of four-year-old twins has been burnt to death in Kaoma district, Western Province, after they attempted to put off a bush fire to secure stacks of grass left by their father.
Western Province commissioner of police Charles Lungu named the deceased as Ngubi and Nyambo Chinga of Chiyoya village.
