DPP commits suspected assassins to High Court

HIGH Court.

DIRECTOR of Public Prosecutions Lillian Siyuni has committed three men accused of conspiring to kill former President Rupiah Banda and special assistant to the President for political affairs Kaizer Zulu to the High Court for trial.

Steven Phiri, 34, a soldier of house number LCC 457 in Lusaka West military camp, Steven Chooka, 42, also a soldier of house number LCA 300 in the same camp, and 38-year-old Milner Mwanakampwe, a businessman of Highridge in Kabwe, are charged with two counts of conspiracy.
When the matter came up before chief resident magistrate Kenneth Mulife yesterday, he released the trio on K5,000 cash bail each with two working sureties apiece in the sum of K2,000 but in their own recognisance following an application for bail by the defence team.
