‘Don King’ Mwanza buried

HUNDREDS of Nkana supporters, players and officials yesterday paid their last respects to their patron Simon ‘Don King’ Mwanza.
Mwanza, 65, died on Monday at Wusakile Mine Hospital and was put to rest at Chamboli Cemetery in Kitwe.
Nkana executive committee member Charles Chikwelete said the club will forever remain with special memories of Mwanza for his contribution to the success of the 12-time Super Division champions.
Chikwelete said in a speech during a church service at Nkana Stadium that Mwanza’s death has robbed his family, friends, the club and the football fraternity at large of a dedicated soccer administrator.
Mwanza served as chairman of the supporters club, club committee member, vice-chairman before being appointed patron of the Kitwe giants in 2010.
“Mwanza played a pivotal role in bringing yesteryear’s lost glory back to our most successful and decorated club in Zambia at both the highest and lowest points until he retired from football administration,” Chikwelete said.
Mordon Malitoli, Musole Sakulanda, Frazer Kamwandi, Ken Katala, Kennedy Kalale, Kennedy Mubanga and Douglas Chiwaya, among others, are some former Nkana players that attended the burial.
Mwanza is survived by a wife Monica, six children and four grandchildren.
