DMMU releases relief maize

THE Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has released 100 metric tonnes of relief maize to Isoka district in Muchinga Province.
Isoka experienced a drought during the 2016/2017 farming season which affected crop yields in the province.
The 100 metric tonnes of maize will be distributed to 300 residents of Mpandwa Township who are experiencing hunger because of the poor crop yield.
Isoka district commissioner Evenwell Mutambo said the district experienced a drought in 2016, which left most of the fields dry.
“The residents of Mpandwa Township are starving because all the crops they planted during the 2016/2017 farming season dried up due to lack of rains,” he said.
