DMMU plans for floods

THE Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) is working on a contingency plan to mitigate the impact of floods expected in some parts of Zambia in the 2016/2017 rain season.
According to the 2016/2017 rainfall forecast launched by the Zambia Meteorological Department (ZMD) last month, some parts of the country are likely to be affected by floods.
DMMU head of research and planning, Yande Mwape said, in an interview, that DMMU will be concluding its contingency plan in the next two weeks.
“We will be working on a contingency plan to identify which areas are likely to be affected and what is needed to mitigate the impact,” Ms Mwape said.
She said DMMU will invite experts to help with disaster response plans.
