DJ Chichi’s victim wants him freed

NAGAAD Saad, the woman who was brutally abused and undressed in public by her now jailed boyfriend Chishimba Chibemba, popularly known as DJ Chichi, has called for his release.
Ms Saad, whose attack was captured in a video that shocked the nation, complained to the Zambia News and Information Service (ZANIS) in Kafue about the imprisonment of her boyfriend.
Ms Saad was attacked at Gabino Night Club in Kafue on June 26, 2016.
After eluding police for eight months, DJ Chichi was arrested, convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labour on January 4.
But Ms Saad said the jailing of her boyfriend has made her life miserable as she depended on him for survival.
She said her boyfriend acted that way under the influence of alcohol and that they had now reconciled.
Ms Saad accused anti gender based violence (GBV) activists and law enforcers in Kafue of making a name out of her situation.
She said Government, donors and well-wishers rendering help to victims of GBV should deal directly with the victims other than going through the activists.
But Kafue district anti-GBV champion Dorcas Mumba said victims of GBV should stop interfering with cases of such nature but let the law take its course.
Pastor Mumba said the role of GBV activists is to protect the integrity of women in the district.
She refuted claims by Ms Saad that GBV activists benefit by taking advantage of the victim’s situation. – ZANIS
