Dissolve ZRU executive – Chani

By HONE SIAME
RUGBY administrator Tom ‘Tobela’ Chani has called on the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) to dissolve the Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) executive committee following the resignation of president Martin Musunka and three others.
Musunka stepped down as ZRU president barely weeks after his vice-president Owen Mhango and committee members Moono Muleya and Sam Simwanda quit their posts.
Chani, a former ZRU committee member, said in an interview from Chingola on Sunday that the John Chibuye-led interim committee is illegal.
He said the NSCZ should quickly move in and appoint people of its choice to run rugby affairs until the rugby fraternity ushers in a new executive committee at an elective annual general meeting.
Chani said the appointment of an interim committee by an official who had stepped down is not in the interest of rugby administration.
He said NSCZ should use the powers restore sanity in the ZRU by appointing an interim committee.
He also urged ZRU councillors to ensure the constitution is upheld by all to avoid problem.
He said councillors should also reverse the extended tenure of office.
The Musunka-led executive committee extended the tenure of office early this year from two years to four years.
