FORMER national team skipper Dickson Makwaza has implored the Chipolopolo to treat Mozambique with respect in today’s 2015 Morocco Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Makwaza said from Luanshya yesterday that there are no underdogs in modern football.
“There are no weak teams anymore. We should not be complacent from the word go and we should be cautious in attack and defence. I will be in the stands to rally behind the boys,” said Makwaza, who was national team skipper from 1967 to 1975.
Another former national team defender, Edward Musonda, is confident the Chipolopolo will triumph.
“We are winning and the boys are playing good football.
I am on the way to Ndola and as a FAZ life-member, my job is to watch football,” said the former Kabwe Warriors star.
Zambia and Mozambique have met 13 times with the former winning 11 and two matches ending in draws.
Recently, the Chipolopolo beat the Mambas 2-0 in Maputo in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and 3-0 in the return leg in Chingola.
Zambia battered Mozambique 3-1 in the 2013 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Senior Challenge Cup quarter-finals at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.
