GOVERNMENT is waiting for the office of the Attorney General to advise on the ownership of the copper slug dump, popularly known as the Black Mountain, in Kitwe’s Wusakile township.
Speaking in an interview in Kitwe yesterday, Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Christopher Yaluma said it is Government’s desire to empower its people, especially the youth.
“There was a court case regarding the issue of the black mountain and we are waiting for the Attorney General to advise Government on the matter with regard to issues of ownership of the mountain,” he said.
Mr Yaluma also said that Government is concerned about the lack of adherence to safety standards at the copper slug dump.
On Saturday, hundreds of youths matched to the office of Kitwe district commissioner Chanda Kabwe to protest over the ownership of the mountain.
