DEC targets directors

NANCY SIAME, Parliament
INVESTIGATIVE wings are pursuing directors of Messer MCD Civil and Mechanical Engineering Limited for failing to deliver nine dredgers to Government despite getting about US$7.9 million, of the total contract sum of US$11 million.
Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Ronald Chitotela said in a ministerial statement in Parliament yesterday that the company was contracted to deliver 12 dredgers over a period of nine months in 2015 at US$11 million and that 72 percent payment was made.
“The contract delivery period was extended to May 31, 2017 to allow the suppliers to deliver in full,” he said.
Mr Chitotela, who is Pambashe Member of Parliament (MP), said a letter was written to the supplier to terminate the contract, and the matter was referred to law enforcement agencies for further action.
