DC urges investors to explore agro sector

KABWE

MONICA KAYOMBO, Ndola
MUFULIRA district commissioner Chanda Kabwe has urged investors to explore investment opportunities in the agriculture sector in the area.
Mr Kabwe said agriculture is the second largest contributor to the national economy from mining.
He said yesterday that agriculture is an important industry and it is important for investors to explore investment opportunities in Mufulira because the area has arable land.
“Mufulira district has the potential of becoming the top performing agricultural district if the corporate world and other stakeholders in the country pump more money in the agriculture sector for the benefit of the people,” Mr Kabwe said.
He commended two commercial farmers called Triple X and Lakeview, who are adding value to the agricultural sector.
Mr Kabwe also appealed to the private sector to help empower small-scale farmers with mechanised agricultural equipment.
He said Mufulira has potential of becoming Zambia’s food basket if the agriculture industry is developed at commercial level.
“Despite the district not having many subsistence farmers, the Patriotic Front government is working around the clock to ensure that their way of farming is efficient and improved by supplying farm inputs needed during the farming season on time,” he said.
Mr Kabwe also said the government has paid all the farmers who supplied their maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).
