DC assures Kitwe settlers

KITWE district commissioner Chanda Kabwe has assured subsistence farmers living across the Kafue River that Government will not allow anyone to displace them from the land they have been occupying for over 30 years now.
Speaking when he met the affected farmers, Mr Kabwe said his office will work with the local authority to ensure that they have documented proof of ownership.
Mr Kabwe’s assurance comes in the wake of complaints by the over 8,000 affected people that some people who are claiming to be the owners of the land have been threatening to evict them.
He said as far as he knows, Kitwe City Council had not yet advertised plots across the Kafue River and that his office will engage the people who are allegedly demarcating the land and threatening to displace people.
