DARLINGTON MWENDABAI & HOPE NYOKA, Chipata
DAVID Kaunda Stadium in Chipata will be renovated into a modern stadium that will house a shopping mall, hotel and conference facilities.
Minister of Youth and Sport Vincent Mwale said there is need to uplift the stadium to international standards.
Mwale said this in Chipata yesterday when he paid a courtesy call on acting Eastern Province permanent secretary Beenzu Chikuba.
“We want to turn DK Stadium into an international stadium which will be equipped with modern facilities such as hotels, a shopping mall and conference facilities,” he said.
Mwale said the stadium will be rehabilitated using the Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement once an investor has been identified.
He also said an investor has shown willingness to build a shopping mall at Lusaka’s National Heroes Stadium.
Meanwhile, Mwale on Sunday toured Chipata Golf Club.
He said there is need to uplift sports facilities in Chipata.
