Dangote studying Chongwe limestone project viability

BENEDICT TEMBO, Lagos
THE Dangote Group, with a footprint in Zambia, is still studying the viability of limestone in Chongwe before setting up a cement plant there.
And the Group, which runs a cement plant in Ndola rural, is currently undertaking a needs assessment before embarking on corporate social responsibility projects.
Anthony Chiejina, Dangote head group of corporate communications said the company is willing to grow in Zambia, but is studying the lifespan of the limestone area in Chongwe.
Mr Chiejina said expanding the production of cement in Zambia is a must, similarly to what it has done in Cameroon, Ethiopia and Nigeria.
Mr Chiejina said to expand, the stakes must be high.
“Something will happen in Zambia, we have gone to Zambia to stay,” Mr Chiejina said during his interaction with journalists at Dangote headquarters in Lagos yesterday.
On corporate social responsibility, Mr Chiejini said Dangote is willing to work with communities like it is doing in Nigeria.
He said Dangote Foundation, the social wing of the company is doing an assessment in Zambia so that it does not impose itself on the communities.
