‘D-compound fertiliser distribution after urea, maize seed delivery’

KITWE district agriculture co-ordinator Raphael Muyaule has advised farmers that the distribution of D-compound fertiliser will begin once urea and maize seed have been delivered to the province.
The district has received 12,600, 50Kg bags of D Compound fertiliser out of the 18, 500 allocation under the farmers input support programme.
Dr Muyaule said in an interview yesterday that Government has added groundnuts and sorghum to the FISP pack in an effort to promote crop diversification.
He said they want farmers to grow a variety of crops to enhance food security at national level and reduce poverty at household level.
Dr Muyaule said the current trend where farmers only grow maize on a large-scale is detrimental to efforts by Government to promote food security through crop diversification.
