Court hears how Kitwe man was battered, robbed

He said he passed out as a result of the severity of the punches
MWILA NTAMBI – Kitwe
A CHARCOAL burner of Zamtan in Kitwe has narrated to the Kitwe Magistrate’s Court how two men he knew very well allegedly attacked and robbed him of K200 on his way to buy bicycle bearings.
Christopher Chalwe, 51, of zone 1008, Zamtan in Kitwe, on Tuesday told Kitwe senior resident magistrate Daniel Musonda that on the evening of September 3 this year, he was attacked by two people he knew very well.
Mr Chalwe was testifying against  Kelvin Mutale, 30, alias Mundondo, and Lameck Kamwi, 23, both of Zamtan who are charged with robbery.
The two are alleged to have robbed Mr Chalwe of K200 and threatened to use force or violence against him.
During trial on Tuesday, Mr Chalwe identified both accused men as his assailants on the material night.
He testified that around 20:00 hours as he was going to buy bicycle bearings, he met Kamwi, who is his neighbour’s son.
“He asked me where I was going and I told him. A few minutes later, I met Mundondo who started asking me if I had money but I told him that the only money I had was for bicycle bearings,” Mr Chalwe said.
He said Mundondo beat him after his response.
Mr Chalwe narrated that as Mundondo punched him on the face and mouth, Kamwi held his hands backwards and the duo searched him and got away with K200 cash.
He said he passed out as a result of the severity of the punches and was left by the roadside before proceeding home where his daughter noticed his swollen face.
He told the court that he was then admitted to Kitwe Central Hospital for five days.
Trial continues on October 27.
