A COUPLE in Chongwe has been arrested for concealing an alleged defilement of their niece.
Both Chongwe police and Chongwe gender-based violence (GBV) one-stop centre Clara Kapampa confirmed the incident.
Narrating the ordeal, Ms Kapampa said the girl is believed to have been defiled several times by her uncle last year.
Ms Kapampa said the uncle used to frequent the girl’s room at night and forced himself on her.
“When the girl told the aunty about what was happening, the aunty was upset. She said she could not share her husband. She instead sent the girl away to live with another relative,” Ms Kapampa said.
Ms Kapampa said the girl, who is an orphan and mentally disturbed, confirmed that she was defiled by her uncle.
“The family tried to sit in order to resolve the matter but the uncle did not show up. So the relatives decided to seek medical attention,” Ms Kapampa said.
Ms Kapampa said the relatives where the girl relocated decided to take her to the hospital where it was discovered that she was pregnant.
