‘Country needs strategy to link farmers to processors’

KELLY NJOMBO, Lusaka
THE Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) says the country needs to adopt a strong and resilient strategy that will link farmers to processors to boost the manufacturing base.
ZAM chief executive officer Maybin Nsupila said agriculture development can play a significant role in growing the manufacturing industry in the country, hence the need to strengthen linkages in the whole value chain.
Mr Nsupila said in an interview recently that strengthening linkages will not only create a readily available market for farmers but also contribute to economic development.
“The country needs to adopt a robust and vibrant strategy that will develop the manufacturing industry in the country by further exploiting agricultural productivity through creating deliberate linkages and value chains that will not create a readily available market for farmers, but as well as grow the manufacturing industry in the country,” he said.
