Councillors were aware of prevailing allowances

Dear editor
I REFER to the article by Emelda Musonda in the Daily Mail of November 26, 2016.
I would like to add that at the time of being adopted by their respective parties, councillors claimed that they will represent and work for the people.
The adoption was on voluntary basis and they were very much aware of the prevailing allowances.
If the going is now tuff, the affected councillors better resign and allow for by-elections to bring in new councillors who are genuinely going to represent and work for the people.
The claim of being involved in planning, designing and implementation of developmental projects in the wards is a duplication of functions with professionals in the councils and line ministries.
