Cops gun down 3 bandits

POLICE on the Copperbelt yesterday killed three suspected criminals believed to be behind a spate of robberies in the province.
The men, whose identities could not be ascertained by press time, were shot in Masaiti in an incident in which police also recovered an assault rifle.
The criminals are suspected to be behind a spate of robberies in Ndola and Luanshya in the recent past.
Copperbelt Province police commissioner Joyce Kasosa confirmed the killing but could not give further details because she was still gathering more information from her officers.
Ms Kasosa said the suspected criminals were killed yesterday around 16:30 hours along Masaiti’s Lima-Lamba road.
“Yes, I can confirm that our officers have gunned down three suspected dangerous criminals. But I do not have the details right now. The three were gunned down at an area called the Lima-Lamba road around 16:30 hours. Our officers also recovered an AK-47 rifle from the same suspected criminals. These criminals are believed to be the ones that have been terrorising residents on the Copperbelt and stealing money from them,” Ms Kasosa said.
The Copperbelt has in the past few months experienced robberies where goods and thousands of Kwacha have been stolen from people at gunpoint.
In a recent incident, robbers ambushed two nurses and a guard at Mikomfwa clinic in Luanshya and got away with money and other items.
