‘Cop used road-block earnings as collateral’

Traffic police

IN A desperate attempt to borrow money from a women’s savings group, a Kitwe reserve police officer promised to pay back her debt after mounting just one road block.
In her testimony, Susan Muyasani told the Buchi Local Court that in August last year, she was approached by 39-year-old Sharon Chola, who sought to borrow K9,500 from Peace Lilly, a women’s group which runs a savings facility called ichilimba.
Chola sued Ms Muyasani seeking a court order to compel the women’s group to stop adding interest on the principal amount she borrowed. The debt has since grown to K16,000 in view of the accrued interest.
