A KITWE-BASED police officer has been sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labour by the Buchi Local Court for failing to pay K5,000 he was fined for damage.
Collins Mwaba, 34, was sued by Beatrice Kamfwa whom he had impregnated. He was ordered to pay K5,000 as compensation in monthly instalments of K250.
However, Buchi Local Court magistrate Elizabeth Banda heard that for the past one year, Mwaba has not paid Kamfwa her money as ordered by the court.
“Looking at the number of months you defaulted in paying, you are now a third offender and its automatic that you are given custodial sentence. I, hereby, sentence you to six months imprisonment with hard labour with effect from today,” Magistrate Banda said.
